Dontyne Systems has developed the Gear Production Suite (GPS) gear design software to accelerate manufacture by generating appropriate tooling and simulating the machining or forming process to check part generation in advance. Any changes to tool design or generation required to facilitate production can be made before the drawings are issued including checking the max/min conditions for part and tool to confirm stability of the process. The software also provides interfacing to inspection equipment. This ‘holistic’ approach considers design, machining, and inspection in one software program for safer and more efficient production.

This holistic approach is also true of gear manufacture on 5-Axis CNC Machine centres. Dontyne has collaborated with NCMT, supplier of Makino and Okuma machines in UK & Ireland, on an article to show how Dontyne software can generate G-Code from geometry optimised using loaded tooth contact analysis functions in GPS. Dontyne Gears has validated the software output on an Okuma Genos machine for various cylindrical and bevel gear forms. The software can utilise End Mill generation for fast turn around and flexible production, but also bladed tool for larger batch numbers and more efficient use of machine time. The software has also been used to production prototypes and small batch for internal test programs and customer specific projects.
